From time to time, I am going to feature working mothers on this blog who inspire others and have overcome hardships–health or financial–to achieve incredible success.

Julie Clark is a mother, two-time breast cancer survivor, children’s book author and founder of The Baby Einstein Company.

Being a mom is challenging enough, but imagine the additional stress of raising a family while fighting breast cancer and running your own business. Julie is an example of one extraordinary mom who managed to do all three.

A 44-year-old former teacher and founder of The Baby Einstein Company, Julie had been cancer-free for nearly five years following her initial Stage I breast cancer diagnosis before doctors found her cancer had returned and spread to her liver and lymph nodes. She was then diagnosed with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, taking her focus away from her successful company and toward her own treatment.

As a wife, mom of two girls, and breast cancer survivor, Julie combined her cancer experience and love of teaching to write “You Are the Best Medicine” — a book for children who have a loved one with cancer. All proceeds from her book go to UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center because the initial research on the breast cancer treatment Julie received started at UCLA.

Julie was recently named one of Babble.com’s top 50 Mompreneurs for 2011. She shares the same hopes and dreams, worries and fears and daily stresses as many women, all on top of battling breast cancer. Her story is empowering and motivating to other working moms.
